Last week we video conferenced with new friends in the Cayman Islands. We were very surprised to learn that there are kids from all over the world at the Cayman International School. We met kids from Australia, Europe, North and South America, Asia. There were only a few kids that were born in Grand Cayman. There are over 20 languages spoken at the International School! In our class we speak English, and Maricela is the only other friend who speaks Spanish. We begin learning French in Grade 4.
Here are some of the things we learned about the kids in Grand Cayman:
1. The Grand Cayman is an island in the middle of the ocean.
2. There school only have a few walls. It is open on the sides because it is always warm there.
3. A large number of kids who go to school there don’t live there all year round because their parents work in different parts of the world.
4. There are over 500 kids at their school and they learn the same subjects that we do.
5. Their favourite sports are football (soccer), swimming, tennis, basektball, cross country and track and field just like us (except for tennis 🙂
6. Their favourite foods are pizza, pancakes, strawberries, fruits, hamburgers, fish, ice cream and lots more. We like the same foods as they do!
7. The weather in the Cayman Islands is hot all the time because they live close to the equator. They have a dry season and rainy season.
8. We asked them if there were sharks in the water and they said they don’t see sharks that often because they swim in deep water.
Thank for you video conferencing with us! We hope to chat with you again soon!
