June Newsletter 2015

It was so good to see so many of you out at the Stephen Central Family Fun Fair event on May 7th! We hope you can make it to the school council ‘Drive In’ event on the evening of June 4th.

We are down to the last month of school already! The countdown is on to a well-deserved summer vacation for our students. It will be a very busy last month which means a lot of information will be communicated between home and school, especially additions to our calendar of events. Planners will be full! Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or concerns. Here’s our June newsletter with some upcoming events and curriculum updates. Have a great month and enjoy a wonderful Father’s Day!

June’s Character Virtue: Integrity

Mail Bags, Planners and Homework: Please remember to check mailbags daily, sign planners and take out/return items promptly to stay on top of communication between home and school. Our last month may be a big one! The blog is also a great place to for information about homework and reminders. Please check the ‘Homework & Reminders’ section on the class blog for detailed explanations regarding all homework and reminders, since students often only write a brief note in their planners.

Class Trip: On Wednesday, June 17th, students in the Grade 1, 1/2 and 2/3 will be travelling to Morrison Dam for the day to enjoy the sun and learn about the characteristics of living things, animals habitats, environmental citizenship, and conservation. We welcome any volunteers who wish to join us on this fun-filled day! More information will be arriving home shortly for this great adventure!

School Awards & Grade 6 Celebration: These will take place on Tuesday, June 23 with the exact time to be determined if you would like to participate.

Play Day: On Wednesday, June 24th, during the middle block, the whole school will be participating in a circuit of activities. Odds are there are going to be some wet and wild activities, so students should come with an extra change of clothes for the day. Remember the sunscreen and hats to enjoy, what we hope will be a sunny, fun-filled day with their ‘team’. Following, we hope to plan a school wide BBQ for the students. If any parents are able to help that day, please let us know!

Book Orders: Book orders will be sent home soon and any orders for this last round will need to be returned by Friday, June 12th in order for time to come in before the end of the school year. Some great deals for some summer reading!

Library Books: June 4th is the last day for our students to take out library books. All library books must be returned to the school on June 12th.

Student Blogs: Student blogs will be deactivated over the summer which means students will not be able post during the summer months. Next year student blogs will be reactivated if their new classroom teacher chooses to continue blogging with his/her class. If students are not blogging next year, their blogs will remain deactivated until they work with a teacher who chooses to use blogging as a platform for learning.

Curriculum Update: June will be a month of continued learning… although a number of special events will be thrown in the mix, please know that there is still a whole lot of learning going on! Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time every day.  If you know students will be away for any days in June, please let us know well in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Report Cards: Students will be bringing home their term 2 report cards on Tuesday, June 23rd. Please discuss your child’s report card with your son/daughter and be sure to highlight all of the success and growth s/he has shown this year. It is equally important to discuss your child’s next steps for learning and we would encourage you to continue those conversations over the summer.

There is a ‘tear off’ section for students to write down the goals they have set for themselves next year, as well as reflect upon their learning this past year. Please share your comments as well. These should be completed and returned to the school prior to the last day of school.

Last Day Special Activities: On the last day of school, we will be having a class party throughout the day. We are asking that families send in a healthy snack for the class or a treat if you like. We will be watching the movie James and the Giant Peach as it compliments the novel we are currently studying.

We just wanted to take this time to say that we have really been fortunate to be placed with such a wonderful group of students. Each and every student has made this year a fantastic one! There are always bumps along the way, but we appreciate the super hard work and it’s clearly seen in the growth in character in each student. We are proud of each and every one of them! We want to sincerely wish each of you a relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation and all the best in your journey next year!

Take care,

Mrs. Leigh Cassell & Ms. Nicole King

The Days Are Clear

The days are clear,

When April’s here,

That leads to May,

And June must follow soon.

Stay, June, stay!
