An Invitation to Join OnEdMentors Connect

Since January 2018 we have been building a vision for a community where teachers learn from each other in a personalized, non-hierarchical, open and self-directed way. Today we would like to extend an invitation to you to join the OnEdMentors Connect (OEMConnect) community.

OnEdMentors Connect began as a way to build mentorship relationships to help cultivate a culture of learning and build teacher capacity for improved student achievement and well-being. We partnered with voiced Radio as a platform for sharing, reflection and learning that could further amplify our responsiveness to the needs of mentors and mentees within this inclusive and evolving space.

In phase one, we invited mentors to build their profiles in Digital Human Library.  Then, we invited a handful of mentees in their first and second year of teaching to search for and find a mentor that suited their learning needs. As the excitement continued to build (just like the Dating Game!) we openly discussed the process and our learning on the weekly OnEdMentors Show on voicEd radio. Our final show is scheduled for November 15th when we will hear back from our mentors and mentees about their overall experience.

As we gear up for Phase 2 launching in January 2019, we are ready to enlist a larger community of mentors and mentees.

We all have something to teach, and we all have something to learn. Now, we all have a shared space to do this together.

Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us!

CHAT QUESTIONS:

YOU’VE BEEN FAKED: UNCOVERING TRUTH ONLINE THROUGH DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

1. What is fake news?

2. Why do people make fake news? What do you think is their purpose?

3. What makes fake news online so believable?

4. How to you evaluate a website to detect fake news?

5. Responsibility is the ability to respond to a situation. What can you do if you find fake news online?

*These same 5 questions will be used for the Slow Chat all month long. Where necessary, questions have been reworded for younger Tweeters. We recommend classes spend time answering the questions ahead of time so time during the chat can be spent liking tweets, retweeting, quoting tweets in reply, and collaborating with others.
