It is so hard to believe that the end of the school year is already here! It seems like yesterday that it was January! I am so happy that I decided to participate in this blogging project so that I could learn to blog as well as teach my students how to blog, so all of us can leave an amazing digital footprint!
A few weeks ago I asked my class to look back at their early posts and compare them to their recent posts. I asked them to blog what they learned from blogging, what they learned about themselves, and how they have improved. It is only fitting for me to do the same.
In the beginning I was so worried that I would mess it up somehow. I worried that I wouldn’t be able to teach my students how to blog properly. I also worried that I wouldn’t do a good job of teaching the curriculum using technology. Wow, I worried for nothing! Both the students and I caught on quickly and it wasn’t long before we had followers and an even bigger audience to write for! I discovered that using technology as a teaching tool was one of the best decisions I have made in my teaching career! It was so beneficial to teach the students about internet etiquette, the importance of leaving a digital footprint for their future, as well as sharing our learning with others.
All of my students improved their communication skills, their collaboration skills, their creativity, their critical thinking and their problem solving skills! It was not always easy, but we did it! I feel pretty confident that I challenged my students and pushed them out of their comfort zone. I think I learned almost as much from my students as I taught them!
So as I sit here and reflect on the year as well as the blogging project, I am feeling happy, content, and much more confident. I learned that I can teach with technology. I learned that I can blog. I learned that what I have to share/blog is important. I learned that pushing myself out of my comfort zone is just as important as pushing my students out of theirs!
I am really looking forward to blogging with my next class and learning more about teaching with technology!
Thank you for sharing your final reflection with the community. You made some powerful statements about your students’ learning and your own professional learning. I believe the last few lines you wrote are echoed by so many others in AMDSB who took a chance this year and tried something new: “I learned that I can teach with technology. I learned that I can blog. I learned that what I have to share/blog is important. I learned that pushing myself out of my comfort zone is just as important as pushing my students out of theirs!”
I am looking forward to hearing from others in our community about their experiences this year. Thank you again for sharing yours!
